Dill- The Comeback Kid
We always say that time flies, but it is true. This January marked seven years together for Dill (JC Vineyard Harbour) and Samyi. Retired with an injury, they have been a pair since he left the racetrack. We reached out to Samyi for an update on Dill’s past year.
What’s New with Dill
Dill enjoyed a slow winter where we focused on a lot of groundwork to strengthen both his body and his mind. From his leg surgery and long recovery, to ulcers, saddle fitting issues as we came back into work, and even refusing to get in the trailer this past year… we have truly been through it all. But we officially overcame the trailer issue, and now he loads with just the point of a finger.
Last year we attended a few barrel races where he began refusing left turns. Come to find out he was just a little out of alignment. With some chiropractic work and anti-inflammatory support, he started feeling like himself again. I feel like we have overcome so much together over the years. The bond we’ve built through every setback has made all the tears, sweat, and stress worth it.
He is the wish I made blowing out my birthday candles for so many years, and I wouldn’t trade the hard or the good for anything. He loves his pickle ball puffs, prefers I don’t catch him to go to work, and would rather run with his herd and stay with his friends when the weather is nice and not work. But under saddle he has been incredible and so willing to learn.

The Comeback Kid
This spring and summer we will be competing in a full buckle barrel racing series and attending a few rodeos. I truly hope we have no setbacks, and that as the comeback kid, he can finally show the world what he is capable of and how far he has come through the set backs.
We, too, can’t wait to see what Dill and Samyi do this year. Here’s to a year of successes for both of them!
