Where is Final Furlong based?
It is based in Ocala, Florida.
How did your program begin?
I retrained graduates of Niall Brennan Stables in the show horse world and decided I would rather rehome them than retrain or resell.
What makes Final Furlong unique?
Our program is only for graduates of Niall Brennan Stables.
What happens when a horse is accepted into your program?
We assess them, soundness and mental health, and give them the time off and treatment needed for a second career. Ideally this is 90 days.
Do you work with other locations or farms in your program?
Sometimes we work with Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare, if our graduates end up there.
How many horses have gone through your program?
Since 2009 when we started? Hundreds.
How does Final Furlong receive funding?
We receive private funding from owners and grants from the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.
Do you have a story about a horse that we can share with our readers?
Recent graduate, Find Your Path, came home in July. She was rehomed in September, and her first rides included jumping cross country jumps. These included water jumps while being ridden by a 7 year old.
If people want to help your program, what can they do?
Spread the word.
