Pass the Cash- All in the Family

From foaling through racing through retirement, Pass the Cash is a Wasabi story. Let’s go back to the beginning to see how this filly’s blood runs orange and green.

The beginning

Pass the Cash is a product of the mating of Analyzeyurspending to Force the Pass in 2020. Analyzeyurspending was Wasabi Ventures Stables’ very first broodmare, the entire reason that they decided to breed in addition to race. Additionally, Force the Pass was privately purchased by Wasabi Ventures Stallions in 2019 and stood in Maryland during 2020.

Analyzeyurspending foaled this filly in New York. Given the nickname Asiago (during the year of cheese-named foals) she moved to St. Omer’s Farm in Maryland after being weaned.

The racing

WVS decided to keep Asiago to race and sent her to Zoe Valvo at Middleburg for her pre-race training. Along with seven other yearlings, she spent over six months learning the ropes of the racing world. During the fall of 2022 she was given the Jockey Club-official name Pass the Cash.

After graduating from Middleburg, she moved to the barns of Jesse Cruz at Monmouth. Racing throughout the Mid-Atlantic, from the summer of 2023 through January 2025, Cashy raced 17 times, finishing with 3 wins, 5 seconds, and 1 third.

Her retirement

Although Cashy put forth much effort and raced soundly, speed was not her best strength. Finishing fifth, in what would be her final race, WVS decided it was time to retire her. As we began searching for a home for this petite filly, one person came to mind: Neil Agate.

Neil is a longtime WVS club member and avid polo player. Many times Neil mentioned wanting a WVS retiree, preferably a smaller filly or mare. I reached out to Neil, who initially hesitated. This wasn’t the year to add a horse to his farm. As I continued to search for the right home for Cashy, so, too, did Neil contemplate.

A short time later Neil texted me. He wanted to have Cashy, but he also wanted to wait until 2026 to start her, in order to take her to that year’s RRP Thoroughbred Makeover. Downtime at a lovely farm? A home with a club member who knew her from the day she foaled? The answer was yes.

The future

Cashy will spend the next several months living the laid back pasture life. Based on this video, I think she’s going to enjoy that. Then, next year we will have a front row seat, as we watch her learn a new role as a polo pony.
