I Love Horses Day 2025

Okay, I Love Horses Day actually was yesterday, but today is recap day!

The history

Starting in March 2022, Wasabi Aftercare Fund celebrated Shamrock Kid Day. On March 17th, we honored Shamrock, who suffered a fatal injury during morning training. While the loss was painful, the loss also provided the final push to form this organization. Because of his loss, we now successfully fundraise to support other Wasabi horses in need of retirement.

For three years, we celebrated this day and remembered Shamrock Kid and the exciting races he gave us. We also felt the sadness of his loss. While we will never forget him, we decided it was time for a change.

The new celebration

This year marks the first year where we celebrate I Love Horses Day. Although we love our horses every day, it is fun to dedicate a day to them. Additionally, July is the month in which Wasabi Aftercare Fund became a recognized charitable organization. What better time to celebrate?

This year’s celebration included a number of online events.

• A YouTube short highlighting some of the retirees who we follow
• A poll to determine which of those retirees is the favorite (Results below)
• Slack posts of our club members’ favorite horses
• Random acts of kindness for horses, such as extra mints or scratches for your favorite horse

This first celebration of I Love Horses Day was a success with many people participating in these events. We look forward to this annual celebration and recognizing so many great horses.
