A New Friend for Beauty

Beauty (JC Wave Jumper) is an 8 year old off-track Thoroughbred, who we retired from racing in the fall of 2021. She retired via New Start, who placed her with After the Races. That is where Samantha first saw Beauty and knew that she was meant to be her horse.

When I reached out to Samantha for my annual update, her first statement was, “I wish I had something incredible to report, but life has been busy with our growing family.” However, as you continue to read about Beauty’s year with Samantha and her family, you will see that it was another incredible year.

Samantha continued, “Beauty ended up not doing so great barefoot and needing glue on shoes. Thankfully, we searched intentionally and found someone who does top notch work. She is on her second pair since fall, which has taken us through the terrible ice and low temps. She is staying comfortable and as sound as can be.

“Just before the weather turned, we began getting back in shape together, which involved lots of walking and stretching. She is mentally stronger than she has ever been, and I don’t have the words to express our bond.”

Then, Samantha shared some very fun news, “My middle daughter, Gwen (age 5) has grown confident with riding other horses and now loves to ride her with no fear or hesitation. We have new goals for Gwen to show at local fun shows.

Beauty is continually loved and a huge emotional component to the whole family. We truly don’t take enough photos because time with her is a gift, but I’ve shared a few of my recent favorites! There will be more.”

While Beauty may not have won any ribbons or attended any shows this past year, what she did was build an even stronger bond with her human family. This commitment to a horse and its welfare does make for an incredible year.
