12 Days of Giving- 2024

It’s a wrap on the 12 Days of Giving! From December 3rd through December 14th, we raised over $14,500 to support the safe and secure retirement of Wasabi Ventures Stables horses. This was our most successful fundraiser yet!

The horses

As of today, we have assisted in the retirement of 9 Thoroughbreds in 2024. Seven of these were horses that were currently running in the WVS barns. For each, we either helped find a forever home or retired them via a reputable horse trainer, who retrains and rehomes.

Additionally, we assisted in the retirement of a former WVS runner. When this horse suffered a career-ending injury, the trainer reached out to us. We contacted New Start and made a donation to them to assist in this horse’s expenses. We also helped with the retirement of a WVS-bred horse. When his owner decided racing life wasn’t right for the horse, we aided in the coordination of his racing retirement plan.

The 12 Days of Giving fundraising

This year we were fortunate to have four matching partners, all members of WVS. Our first matching goal of $2,000 was raised in the first two days. Our second goal was $1,500. By day four we reached that goal as well. With that goal reached, we shared our third matching goal of $1,500. This amount was raised by day 9. We then had our final matching goal of $2,000. On day 12, we matched and surpassed that goal.

In total we had 68 donors who raised our final amount of over $14,500. This incredible fundraising provides us with the ability to privately purchase four horses in need of retirement.
