12 Days of Giving- 2023

It’s a wrap on the 12 Days of Giving! From November 28th through December 9th, we raised over $11,000 to support the safe and secure retirement of Wasabi Ventures Stables horses.

The horses

As of today, we have assisted in the retirement of 13 Thoroughbreds in 2023. Nine of these were horses that were currently running in the WVS barns. For each, we either helped find a forever home or retired them via an accredited aftercare program. This year we worked with New Start, This Old Horse, and NEER North.

We also privately purchased four former WVS runners for retirement. One of these horses now has a forever home with a WVS club member, and the other three were retired via the following programs: TRRAC, Galloping Out, and Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program.

The fundraising

This year we were fortunate to have four matching partners, all members of the WVS club. We met the first matching goal of $2,500 and raised more than half of the second goal of $2,000. The two remaining matching partners offered to make their entire donations even though there would not be matching funds.

In total we had 56 donors who raised our final amount of over $11,000. With this generous amount, we have the ability to privately purchase at least three horses in the future.

I am truly grateful for everyone who supports our aftercare mission through their words, actions, and donations. Together, we can make sure more Thoroughbreds get the happily ever after they deserve.
